    Builder Reviews New Zealand (“Builder Reviews”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to providing a platform where homeowners can share genuine experiences with builders, tradespeople, and construction companies throughout New Zealand.

    We recognise that published content can have a significant impact on both consumers and businesses. This Content Removal Policy explains when Builder Reviews may remove, edit, or retain content published on our website.

    Our Approach

    Builder Reviews aims to provide a fair, balanced, and transparent platform.

    We do not remove reviews simply because a builder or business disagrees with them. We recognise that people may have different experiences with the same company, and differing opinions alone are not grounds for removal.

    Our moderation decisions are made after considering the available information, our Terms of Use, applicable New Zealand law, and the public interest.

    When We May Remove Content

    We may remove, edit, restrict, or refuse to publish content where it:

    • Contains false or misleading information that can be reasonably demonstrated.
    • Includes defamatory, abusive, threatening, or harassing material.
    • Contains hate speech or discriminatory language.
    • Includes personal information that should not be publicly disclosed.
    • Contains confidential information or documents published without appropriate authority.
    • Infringes copyright or other intellectual property rights.
    • Appears to be fake, fraudulent, or intentionally misleading.
    • Was submitted by someone pretending to be another person.
    • Contains spam, advertising, or promotional material.
    • Encourages illegal activity.
    • Contains malicious software, harmful links, or phishing attempts.
    • Breaches our Terms of Use or applicable law.

    Disputed Reviews

    If a builder, trade, or business disputes a review, they may contact us to explain why they believe the review is inaccurate or unfair.

    Where appropriate, Builder Reviews may:

    • Contact the reviewer for additional information.
    • Request supporting documentation from the reviewer.
    • Invite the builder or business to provide their response.
    • Temporarily restrict visibility while a complaint is assessed.
    • Leave the review published if there is insufficient evidence that it breaches our policies.

    A review will not normally be removed solely because it contains criticism or negative opinions.

    Verification Requests

    To help maintain the integrity of our platform, we may request supporting information from reviewers, including but not limited to:

    • Building contracts
    • Invoices
    • Photographs
    • Email correspondence
    • Council documentation
    • Independent inspection reports
    • Other relevant evidence

    Providing this information is voluntary. However, if sufficient information cannot be provided, we may decide not to publish or to remove a review.

    Verification documents are generally kept confidential unless disclosure is required by law.

    Business Responses

    Businesses are encouraged to respond professionally to reviews.

    Where appropriate, Builder Reviews may publish responses from builders or trades alongside the original review so readers can consider both perspectives.

    A business response does not automatically result in removal or modification of the original review.

    Personal Information

    We may remove or edit content containing unnecessary personal information, including:

    • Phone numbers
    • Email addresses
    • Residential addresses
    • Bank account details
    • Identification documents
    • Information about children
    • Other sensitive personal information

    We may edit rather than remove content where doing so preserves the substance of the review while protecting privacy.

    Copyright Complaints

    If you believe content published on Builder Reviews infringes your copyright, please contact us with:

    • Your name and contact details.
    • Identification of the copyrighted work.
    • The URL of the allegedly infringing content.
    • A statement explaining your ownership or authority.
    • Any supporting documentation.

    We will investigate complaints and may remove or restrict access to content where appropriate.

    Historical Reviews

    Reviews relating to businesses that have:

    • Closed,
    • Changed ownership,
    • Rebranded,
    • Entered liquidation,
    • Been deregistered,

    May remain on Builder Reviews where they continue to provide historical information that may assist consumers.

    Where appropriate, we may update listings to reflect changes in ownership or business status.

    Repeat Abuse

    Accounts or users who repeatedly submit:

    • False reviews,
    • Fake identities,
    • Spam,
    • Malicious content,
    • Copyright infringements,
    • Abuse towards businesses or other users,

    may have their submissions removed and may be permanently prevented from posting further content.

    Requesting Content Removal

    If you believe content should be removed, please contact us with:

    • Your full name.
    • Your relationship to the content.
    • The URL(s) involved.
    • A detailed explanation of your concerns.
    • Any supporting evidence.

    Submitting a request does not guarantee removal.

    Each request is assessed individually.

    Our Decisions

    Builder Reviews reserves the right to make the final decision regarding publication, editing, restriction, or removal of content, subject to applicable law.

    We may decline removal requests where we reasonably believe the content:

    • Represents a genuine opinion,
    • Is substantially accurate,
    • Is supported by available evidence,
    • Serves a legitimate public interest, or
    • Does not otherwise breach our policies.
